Subverse Team on I Simpósio de Pesquisas em Games da UFSC

The team of the Subverse had three papers accepted for apersentação on Research Symposium on Games of UFSC (SPG-UFSC: I Simpósio de Pesquisas em Games da UFSC). That event will be held on November 26 and 27 at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina). They accepted the following papers (title in portuguese and authors):

  • Roteiros de Interação entre Jogador e Non-Player Character Baseados em Mudanças de Estados Anímicos para Jogos Digitais (Saulo Popov Zambiasi e Patricia Leandra Barrufi Pinheiro);
  • A Jogabilidade em Embodied Voodoo Game (Jussara Belchior Santos, Patricia Leandra Barrufi Pinheiro e Saulo Popov Zambiasi);
  • O Desenvolvimento de uma Ferramenta Focada no Ensino de Motores de Jogos 2D (Max Ricardo Benin e Saulo Popov Zambiasi).

Subverse Project as a Interdisciplinar Research Group

Project Subverse been updated. More currently has became an interdisciplinar research group focused on Cyberart. So the first project of Subverse had its name changed to "Subverse Project - Origin". The current group is formed by a set of researchers in different areas (Computer Science, Information Systems, Games Development, Theater, Performance).

BDI Agents and Embedded Lua Script on Subverse

Is currently being implement the use of embedded Lua scripts to coordinate the behavior of agents in the virtual world of Subverse Project, so there is no longer need to have to recompile the code each change in the behavior of agents. Agent technologies must be implemented to provide resources to designers of behaviors, eg BDI (Beliefs, Desires and Intentions). Another new feature is the implementation of network multiple connections on the new engine of Subverse.

New Engine 2D in Development

A new graphics engine for representation of virtual world of subverse is in development. That engine is separated in layers. First layer called SLE (Subverse Low Engine) is finished. It's composed by modules of graphics, images, sounds, musics, texts and network funcionalities and uses SDL (Simple Direct Layer) as basement.

Subverse is now multiplayer

Today the library subcom has been added (own development) in Subverse Project. Now the system allows multiple client connections via sockets, sending information about the scenario and  information about active elements of the scenario.

The Subverse Project started around 2006 as a way to generate interdisciplinary works in undergraduate Courses of Computer Science on Universities. It has generated some monographs and papers. The project was stopped one time and now returns to its activities, with new ideas and projects. Wait for news.
